Green Team 2008 Promoting Stewardship of the Environment and Awareness of our Oneness
Unity of Richmond Green Team The Unity of Richmond Green Team recently organized as an outgrowth of discussion during our Fall Series. An advisory team explored the possibilities and from that effort a Green Team was formed. The team is committed to a renewed reverence for life and respect for the interdependence of all existence. We honor our spiritual commitment to the care, support and defense of the balance between our individual needs and nature.
Our Mission To promote stewardship of the environment and an awareness of our oneness with the earth through education, respect for the interdependence of the Universe, sustainable living and the preservation of our natural resources. The church has already changed over to heating with a new fuel that has 10% soybean oil as a component and improves fuel efficiency and emissions. We have replaced light bulbs with CFL bulbs and now purchase only environmentally friendly cleaning products. We are recycling paper and cardboard in the church office and Fellowship Hall. We plan to eliminate paper cup usuage, convert to energy/resource efficient appliances in the future.
How You Can Help - Keep your travel mug in you car so you can use it at the church. - Sign up to help reduce, reusue and recycle. - Join the Green Team! - Help plan and participate in Earth Day Activities. EARTH DAY is April 22, 2008.
Here are some ways to save energy and money while reducing pollution:
Unity's Green Tips for April 2008 - When you have a choice, consider patronizing businesses that have decided to "go green." This increases your impact on supporting a healthy earth. - Choose organic personal care products to reap the benefits of antioxidant-rich, pesticide-free ingredients and treat the plantet with the respect it deserves. - The next time your're at the grocery store, skip products that use unnecessary packaging. For every pound of waste you recycle or eliminate, you save at least a pound of carbon dioxide emissions. - Water saving faucet aerators and low-flow showerheads can cost less that $20. If only 100 homes implemented these easy to install gadgets, it would save 780,000 gallons of water per year.
