Christmas 2013 "Born to Shine"
Christmas is a journey of the heart bringing hope, peace, love and light to all people. All the gospels speak of the brightness of God's coming with angelic choirs, lights in the sky, brightness of the star, worship of the shepherds and wise men. For us, it is the season of lights, at the darkest part of the year. We put beautiful lights outside and inside our homes, add light to the lives of others singing joyful carols, read great light-filled passages of Scripture, remember the coming of the Christ in each of us and rejoice in the celebration of our divinity year after year.
It is Advent — a wondrous time of preparation for the Christ Light to be born once again in our hearts - a time of hope, time of peace, time of love and time of great joy. It is a time when we affirm:
"WE ARE BORN TO SHINE."
Sunday, Dec. 1 — "We are the Hope." -- The hope of Christmas is about our hopefulness to live lighter and brighter lives. We light the purple advent candle of "Hope."
Wednesday, Dec. 4 — 7 pm Annual Service of Remembrance
Sunday, Dec. 8 — "We are the Peace." The peace of Christmas is about having peace in our hearts with God and with one another. We light the purple advent candle of "Peace."
Sunday, Dec. 15 — "We are the Love." The love of Christmas is about discovering the love of God within us. We light the pink advent candle of "Love."
Youth Christmas Pageant: Please join us as our youth narrate and act out the Christmas Story, all ages will participate. If you would like your child to be involved, please contact Mary Beth in the church office at 804-278-6489 or by email.
Sunday, Dec. 22 — "We are the Joy — We are BORN TO SHINE!" The joy of Christmas is about releasing and singing "Joy, Joy, Sweet Joy" and affirming "We are Born to Shine!" We light the purple advent candle of "Joy." Annual Christmas Luncheon following the 11 am service.
Tuesday, Dec. 24 — 7 pm Christmas Eve Candle Lighting Service — "We are the Light" — We walk in the Light of our divinity as Jesus walked in the Light. Words from the Gospel of John are not just some written words from centuries ago. Rather the words are a living reality and a message for us to own our Light, "For the light shone in the darkness and the darkness did not conquer it." We light the white advent Christ candle.
Sunday, Dec. 29 — "We are Shining" — Collectively, we celebrate and shine the Light of Love into a world that works for all.
Tuesday, Dec. 31 — 7 pm — New Year's Eve Burning Bowl Service — "Being the Light" — We release any and all situations that separate us from BEING the light, and we connect with our divinity by writing a Letter to the indwelling God within us to see ourselves through the eyes of Love. Love, release.
